Gran Paradiso Film Festival

From July 23 to 28, 2018 in Cogne and August in the Grand-Paradis valleys

Entries are now open for the 18th edition of the Gran Paradiso Film Festival, which will take place from 25 to 30 August 2014, with screenings and events scheduled in various municipalities of the Gran Paradiso area, and the main events in Cogne. This year's theme will be 'Nature is life, life is nature'.

The Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary and continues to be a beacon for showcasing and promoting international cinematography dedicated to nature and environment protection. Created in 1984, the Festival has gradually grown in terms of quality of the official selection, in the breadth of the program and in the participation of the audience, of nearly 10.000 in 2013.

The Festival comprises three sections. The deadline for submission of works for the International competition - the section open to international feature and short feature films dedicated to nature and the environment - is 18 April 2014 (ATTENTION! The Festival organizers extended the deadline for entries to 30 May 2014). Works can be submitted for CortoNatura - the section open to international short fiction films, short animated films or short documentaries dedicated to nature of a maximum duration of 25 minutes - until 16 May 2014. The third section of the Festival is De Rerum Natura, the cycle of events which includes conferences, encounters with authors, shows and in-depth activities on topics related to science, nature and the environment.

The Technical Jury, presided by the ethologist Danilo Mainardi, boasts the presence of Lucilla Albano, professor of film theory and history, who will present the tribute to her husband, the director Giuseppe Bertolucci, with an out-of-competition special screening of one of his films.

The selected works for the International Competition will compete for the Stambecco d'Oro Award, worth 5.000 euros, assigned by the Jury of the audience, and for five additional awards assigned by the relevant Festival Juries. The works selected for CortoNatura will compete for the best short film award, worth 1.000 euros.
